9 MCM Glasses with 9 different horse poses by artist C. These Derby perfect glasses are signed Anderson referencing C. Anderson, famed writer and illustrator of popular books on horses. As solely an illustrator he was most active from 1930 to 1958. As an author he wrote a popular series of children's books featuring a brown horse named Blaze from 1936 to 1970.
I'm certain the horse on these glasses is Blaze. These glasses are also signed Carwin. Carwin seems to have specialized in "guy stuff" with bar ware and even barber bottles featuring decorations of fly fishing flies, ducks and geese, and of course horses. I was unable to find any other examples of these particular glasses. They are in very nice vintage condition for their age.Hard to photograph but the horses on the front side are slightly paler than the inside probably due light exposure. The glasses have a thin gold rim, except for two that show no trace of ever having any trim. Only two glasses have signatures. The size is a double old fashioned or small tumbler.
They are 4 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" in top diameter. They hold a generous 12 oz.
